Water and food
Ready.gov recommends at least 1 gallon of water per person per day for several days. In Puerto Rico many families prepare for one to two weeks.
Light and power
Never run a generator indoors, in a garage or near windows: carbon monoxide is deadly.
Communication
When cell service goes down, AM/FM radio is still the most reliable source of official alerts.
Health and first aid
Keep a list of every household member's medications and doses.
Documents and cash
Keep copies of IDs, deeds, contracts and policies in a waterproof bag, plus a digital copy in the cloud.
Home and tools
Secure shutters, roofs and loose yard items well ahead of time.
